Should all Owners & Committees in Owners Corporations in Victoria Get Involved with We Live Here?
We Live Here (WLH) is an advocacy group launched in December 2015 with the aim of giving a voice to and protecting the rights of owners and residents in apartment buildings run by Owners Corporations. WLH arose from the long-running Watergate case against short-stays. Until then residents were the forgotten people in the debate, particularly those living in Class 2 residential buildings not designed for quasi-hotel-style accommodation.
Combustible Cladding and the long overdue amendments to the Owners Corporation Act (2006) are the other main issues WLH are currently involved in.
We Live Here has a supporter base representing more than 250 buildings throughout the greater Melbourne area and beyond, including some from interstate and overseas, and also individuals such as architects, lawyers, town planners, academics, councillors, politicians etc.
Activities include lobbying governments and local councils, newsletters, columns in the CBD News, Docklands News and Southbank News, preparing submissions, and much more.
Over 1.6 million people live in an OC in Victoria, which represents over a quarter of the total population, and that figure is only going to get bigger.
It is vital that our voice is heard.
We Live Here is a small not-for-profit organisation that relies on publicly declared donations and community support.
